Contributions to the Knowledge of the Alpheid Shrimp of the Pacific Ocean Part III. On a Small Collection from Onotoa, Gilbert Islands'

چکیده
THIS PAPER reports on a small collection of snapping shrimp made at Onotoa in the southern Gilbert Islands during the summer of 1951 by the members of the Coral Atoll Research team during the investigation of the total ecology of the atoll under the sponsorship of the Pacific Science Board with funds from the Office of Naval Research (Contract NR 160-165 ). Members of the team working on the ecology of marine animals were Dr. Preston E. Cloud , Jr. of the U. S. Geological Service, Dr. Donald W. Strasburg, Dr. John E. Randall , and myself. The latter three at the time were with the University of Hawaii . The study of these shrimp was initiated under a grant administered by the U. S. National Museum and the Pacific Science Board under a contract between the Office of Naval Research, Biology Branch, and the National Academy of Sciences (NR 160-175); some help in the final phases of the study was gained through a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF-G-1754). I also wish to acknowledge the aid that was given me in the field by Drs . Cloud, Strasburg, and Randall. In order to save space and time in this paper, as in the second study, instead of giving complete synonymy and bibliographic references for each species, reference will be made to the earlier papers of the series whenever a species has been listed before . Type specimens of the new species described in this paper will be deposited in the

Contributions to the Knowledge of the Alpheid Shrimp of the Pacific Ocean Part VII. On Metabetaeus Borradaile, with a New Species from Hawaii!
THE GENUS Metabetaeus was describ ed by Borradaile (1898 : 1014) to contain the species originally describ ed by Whitelegge ( 1897: 147 ) as Betaeus minutus. These descriptions and Couriere's subsequent discussion of the genus ( 1899: 374 ) were all based on a series of specimens collected at Funafuti in the Ellice Arch ipelago. Nothing more on either the genus or the species was recorded until...
متن کاملSome Small Collections of Alpheid Shrimp from the Indian Ocean, Including Two New Species
Some small collections of alpheid shrimp resulting from the participation of the United States research vessels in the International Indian Ocean Expeditions are reported: 53 species in six genera were collected, with many of the collection records extending the known range of the various species within the Indian Ocean. Two new species are described from the deeper sublittoral zone: Synalpheus...
متن کاملThe intertidal Decapods of Bushehr, northern part of the Persian Gulf
Abstract: This work was carried out to identify decapods of the Bushehr interidal zone, northern coast of the Persian Gulf. Specimens were collected from eight stations along the coast. During this survey, twelve species were identified, including one alpheid shrimp (Alpheus lobidens), three Anomura (Petrolisthes rufescens, Porcellana persica, Clibanarius signatus) and eight Brachyura (Portunu...
متن کاملPhylogeography of marine mutualists: parallel patterns of genetic structure between obligate goby and shrimp partners.
The survival of many organisms depends on interspecific, mutualistic interactions. Hence, it is important to assess the phylogeography of multiple mutualistic species simultaneously to gain insight into how their metapopulations persist, spread and recover from disturbance. Consequently, we sequenced mitochondrial DNA (cytochrome b) from a gobiid fish (Ctenogobiops feroculus) and its mutualisti...

The present study was carried out in order to establish an economical effective diet for the pacific white shrimp in the southern part conditions of Iran. Three dietary energy levels (E1=262, E2=312, E3=362 Kcal 100 g-1 diet) and 6 ratios of fish meal (FM): soybean meal (SBM) [(P1= 100% FM+ 0% SBM), (P2= 80% FM+ 20% SBM),(P3= 60% FM+ 40% SBM), (P4= 40% FM+ 60% SBM), (P5= 20% FM+ 80% SBM),(P6= ...
